Released in 1996, Evil Empire was the second album from Rage Against the Machine. The album debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 featuring the song "Tire Me" which won a 1996 Grammy for Best Metal Performance. "Bulls On Parade" and "People of The Sun" were also nominated for Grammy's Best Hard Rock Performance.

Tom Morello's distinctive guitar sound and vocalist Zack de la Rocha's messages of political and social consciousness came together to great effect, as RATM attained legendary status among 1990s alt-rock fans.

Formed in 1991, Rage Against The Machine opened the gates of a new boundary-obliterating rock-rap musical alliance with the band's literate and politically-charged debut album. Featuring band members Tim Commerford, Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello and Brad Wilk, Rage Against the Machine became a critical and commercial success, selling millions of copies around the world while attaining legendary status among alt-rock fans. To this day the album, and the band, remain standard-bearers for uncompromising incendiary rock.
