I have the Mobile Fidelity record, and I don't like it. So, I went years before even considering this SACD. After reading the two reviews here, I decided to buy it, and I am very happy with the purchase.
If you have the Mobile Fidelity record, you will know it as being too bright with horrible sibilence. Luckily, the SACD has none of those traits. This is how the record should have sounded.
Paul Simon does a good job of filling the soundtage from left to right, and what he does with the title song is nothing less than beautiful. The voices tend to be in the middle with good-to-great focus. The voices generally have greater volume than the instruments - so they stand out, but the instruments are well- represented, and sound pretty realistic. Then there are the completely smile-inducing vocals on The 56th Bridge song, where they are hyperfocused, and the effect is intense but joyful.
There is tape hiss if you turn the volume up loud enough.
