Twelve masterpiece titles, each a 15 ips, ¼-inch 2-track (½ track) analog tape copy

Sourced from original master tapes

Transferred using ATR-modified Ampex Tape Machine with flux magnetic heads

Custom slipcase cover - highest quality tape reissue!

From Acoustic Sounds, Inc., the world leader in audiophile music sales, comes the highest quality analog reel-to-reel tape album reissues — Analogue Productions Ultra Tape!

Twelve masterpiece titles are featured in this new reissue series, each a 15 ips, ¼-inch analog tape copy (IEC equalization) sourced from a copy of the original analog master tape. Transferred real-time, using an ATR-modified Ampex Tape Machine with flux magnetic heads. Custom slipcase cover. The first two titles — Janis Ian's Breaking Silence and Ben Webster's Gentle Ben are releasing before 2016 ends.

On Breaking Silence, Janis' voice is in its purest, most vital form ever. The tracks were recorded as live as possible without sounding retro. This 1992 all-analogue recording, praised as much for the artist's too infrequently heard talents as for its recorded dynamics, sounds utterly fantastic as a 15 ips ¼-inch tape copy. The tape playback brings crystal clear fidelity to the highest and lowest frequency ranges.

Tracks were recorded at Nightingale Studio on a Studer 820, 16-track machine, 30 IPS, non-dolby, at the elevation of +6/250 nu using Ampex 499 tape. The album was mixed at Bill Schnee Studio to an Ampex ATR 1/2" machine, at 30 IPS, non-dolby, at the elevation of +3/250 nu on Ampex 499 tape. Produced, engineered and mixed by Jeff Balding. Flat transfer (unmastered) from the original master tape by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.

Each Ultra Tape reissue copy is priced at $450. The entire series is available by subscription.

The remaining titles include: Rickie Lee Jones' It's like This / Hugh Masekela's Hope / Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances (the famous Turnabout recording) / Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Scheherazade (RCA Living Stereo) / Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome (RCA Living Stereo) / Leopold Stokowski's Rhapsodies (RCA Living Stereo) / René Leibowitz and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra The Power of The Orchestra (RCA Living Stereo) / Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Lieutenant Kije and Stravinksy's Song of the Nightingale (RCA Living Stereo) / Abel /Steinberg - Beethoven Violin Sonata (Wilson Audio) / and Lowell Graham's Winds of War & Peace (Wilson Audio).

This album is very nice, but I am not rating the music. It is easy to listen to it on streaming platforms and make your own opinion about it.

What I am rating here instead, is the sound of this release vs other formats. It is incredibly superior to anything else, including DSD.

The range is huge, especially bass. It feels like other format were cut in frequencies. The sound is so full and so dense, the gain is naturally high, it sounds extremelly raw and vivid. It sounds like live performance.

For anyone who doesn't own this type of tapes already, i guess you are wondering if you should buy it considering the price. There is no absolute answer. What I can say is that, if that kind of money is no issue for you, then get it! It is no rip off, it has a very specific character nothing else can achieve and sounds superior by far to any other format.

If you do not have that type of budget, don't torture yourself tho. Until you listen to this, CD is great!
