To help develop the soundtrack for this gritty thriller set in 1980s New York, Chandor once again turned to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes lead singer Alex Ebert.

Ebert previously scored Chandor's 2013 film "All Is Lost," eventually earning himself a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. More recently, Ebert provided music for the Disney short Feast, which played in theaters prior to screenings of "Big Hero 6."

In a recent interview with HitFix, Ebert said he enjoys composing because it's often "less constrictive," adding, "I don't really want to write a piece that's just for a scene and then you wouldn't listen to it on your own. So for the album sometimes it's the full version as opposed to what you hear in the theater. But yeah, in general it's just I feel like scoring is sort of liberating in that sense because this is always going to be blank, you know? As opposed to, you know, this sort of template."

Starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac, the film takes place in NYC "during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city's history." It centers around "the lives of an immigrant (Isaac) and his family trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built."
