The K-Series marks the beginning of a new era for Epos. Designed by Luke Creek, the K3 floor-standing loudspeaker is the largest model within this range of loudspeakers.
The initial concept started out with a thought of how to bring box-loudspeakers into an area of the market they are not normal assisted with. This spawn the idea to make a loudspeaker the hub or central place of your Hi-Fi system. This concept had to be achieve whilst preserving Epos’s high-end roots.
The K-Series has a number of unique design areas that enables it to achieve the original concept. These range from, stylish looks, High Velocity Slot Ports (HVSP), Rear mounted drivers and detachable rear baffles.
The K-Series is much more than just another box loudspeaker, it’s the future!
Within the K-Series are a number of areas where we have developed and employed technologies that allow for superior performance over previous models.
High Velocity Slot Ports (HVSP), is one area where dramatic improvements have been made over conventional cylinder ports. The HVSP has allowed for lower audible distortion to be achieve by virtue of the lower drag, lower turbulent air flow exiting from the port. The increase in air flow from the HVSP also results in lower air loading on the mid and bass drivers. This helps keep the position linear throughout its excursion.
In a departure from older designs, the port is now located on the front baffle of the speaker. Using a front firing port, the K-Series also offers more flexibility in its placement within a room.
The unique clamping mechanism used to secure the drivers has resulted in an even distribution of tension applied to the surface of the basket. This uniformed clamping pressure helps to reduce unwanted vibrations that would normally result in higher levels of distortion. The end result is a beautifully clear and transparent mid-range quality.
Cabinet colouration is a critical area of a loudspeakers design that is sometimes overlooked but not with the K-Series. Not only are the cabinets intelligently braced internally, they also have been given removable rear baffles. This was an idea used back the ES11 days of Epos. The theory is to reduce the energy absorbed by the cabinet. One way to achieve this is by making the rear baffle a separate element in the construction. The end result is reduced cabinet colouration. There is another reason for using removable rear baffles and that is to allow for Active-K.
Further performance increases have been achieved with the implementation of high quality crossover components. Great care was taken in the selection of Polypropylene capacitors and metal oxide resistors. As standard, the K-Series comes pre-wired with Oxygen Free multi-stranded copper wire. Specially designed cable management holes inside the cabinet, allow for aftermarket replacement cable sets to be instilled.
