The Fleetwood Mac of 1970, before Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the group, was primarily a British blues band. These songs, recorded with then-band leader Peter Green and the release of their fourth album, Kiln House, show a broadening of the band's use of blues into other contexts with new musical influences.

Fleetwood Mac continues today as one of the most enduring and successful rock bands in history. Through several decades and changing line-ups they have steadily amounted more than 10 million album sales worldwide. Released in September 1969 Then Play On was the band's third studio album and their first release with Reprise Records. It was the first to feature Danny Kirwan and would become their last with Peter Green.
