This is my first volume of this funk series offered by Acoustic Sounds. The 2-LP set is outstanding. The selections are truly rare at this point. The compilation is very much in the approach of Keb Darge's funk compilations of his old 45's collection. If you enjoy The New Mastersounds, Haggis Horns, Sharon Jones, and most of what's on the Daptone label, this volume will turn you on. This isn't the over-produced pop funk of EW&F, Rick James or to a lesser degree T of P Horns, rather it is more a hand-rubbed Brooklyn funk often driven by the bari sax. I am looking forward to my next volume from Acoustic Sounds! You will be too.
