Crystal Clear Audio

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, September 25, 2007 by Anonymous This is a combination of beautiful voices presented beautifully. This was my first experience with XRCD, and I am trully impressed. Although I know the original recordings were well engineered as I have a couple of the selections in standard CD format, the XRCD format brings them to a new level. I will have to procure a few more XRCD's before I can totally endorse the format, but if this one is any indication of what to expect, WOW!

A Superb

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, January 28, 2007 by Dave Schwan This recording was made by London/Decca Records in 1974. Having had a copy of the original LP since that time (and hearing the one and only CD reissue from London in the 80s, which sounded terrible) I must say this XRCD not only brings out what was missing in the previous CD issue, it also clarifies passages unheard in the original LP. There are many fine recordings of this 20th Century masterpiece. But if you like your "Sacre" exciting, in-your-face and stunning, this should fill the bill!

I'm A True-Blue BLUES-fan Now!

5 Stars
Posted Monday, June 5, 2006 by Stephen Yulo I ordered this album after I heard from a friend that the title track song "Come to Find" is worth buying the CD. Upon receiving the bunch of cds in my mail, I picked the Doug Macleod disc and immediately slapped it on my cd player's tray. Over my excitement, I didn't skipped tracks to the title song but just pressed play. From the first track up to the last track, the whole album did not disappoint. The quality of the recording is just breathtaking... the music? Well, let's just say I'm now a certified "true-blue" blues fan! Here's my suggestion to those who doesn't dig the blues, give this album a listen and you'll "see" what I mean.

Great Sound, Great Performance.

Posted Thursday, December 15, 2005 by Andy I didn't enjoy this set as much as the Rossini Overtures from Pentatone featuring Marriner and the AOSMINF, but it's still not a bad album. Do check out the Pentatone set--that's my recommendation.

Dire Straits XRCD

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, March 24, 2005 by Anonymous Brothers In Arms is one of their best records, originally released in full digital, DDD. It has always been a very clean recording. The Brothers in Arms remaster (2000) sounded far too compressed and LOUD. This version is even sweeter than the original. The JVC XRCD format (like Super Bit Mapping 20 bit) sounds incredible. I can't wait to try other titles in this format.

Almost Perfect Recording--Great Remastering

4 Stars
Posted Friday, February 4, 2005 by Andy There were only two times that I heard some defects in the original recording, otherwise this is a great CD. I was very impressed with JVC's 24 bit process--just as good as SACD or DVD-Audio to my ears (too bad the discs are more expensive than most SACD or DVD-A discs). The perfomance is almost flawless--Mehta captures the essence of the Planets and the LAPO plays very well--a nice disc..
