Reviewers have been passionate about the Avalon Acoustics Sentinel Active Reference System loudspeakers since their introduction. And now you can experience the incredible range and performance of these speakers yourself through a unique buying opportunity exclusively from Acoustic Sounds.
“...What we’re trying to do is create not just something that is intrinsically a work of art, but is also a portal into that place. The best experiences listening to music are kind of erasing that boundary between your own consciousness and your subconsciousness. ... We’re trying to make things that allow almost anyone to participate at will, at the time of your own choosing, in the way that you want to go there.” — designer Neil Patel for Avalon Acoustics.
Waaaay back when ... OK, not so long ago, when Acoustic Sounds was headquartered in an 18,000-square-foot building with no inkling of ever having to relocate, we built a custom-designed listening room 18 feet wide and 33 feet long, outfitted with a pair of Avalon Sentinels driven by a Pass Labs stereo amp.
Cut to our move across town in late 2010 to a 20,000-square-foot office building — necessitating construction of a new listening room. Bottom line, the Sentinels provide too much punch for the smaller, more intimate listening space we have now.
But that doesn’t mean this mint-condition pair sounds or appears any less sweet, only that we’re offering the discriminating audiophile a truly one-of-a-kind deal that will save them thousands over the Sentinels’ retail list price.
When retailing new, a pair of Avalon Sentinels would have set you back about $125,000. We’re offering our pair for $90,000.
The Sentinels, with their origami creases and angles, said one reviewer, “are beautiful in a unique, F-117A Stealth Fighter sort of way.”
The Sentinels use a mix of diamond, ceramic and Nomex/Kevlar composite drivers, and they have an incredible range of 16Hz — 100kHz. They’re a full-range frequency speaker capable of accurately reproducing the deep bass of a pipe organ or a large bass drum.
Avalon says its Sentinels feature all of the latest groundbreaking technologies in high accuracy transducer development. Outstanding improvements were achieved in diaphragm materials, three-dimensional magnetic field modeling, low-noise circuitry, resonance control and temporal coherence.
Sentinels have achieved awards for their outstanding appearance as well, such as “Component of the Year,” and the “Edge of the Art Award,” conferred as the finest audio product of the millennium. Their unique facet design facilitates proper response control. And the cabinet construction uses Avalon’s proprietary multiple aperiodically dampened internal chambers, coupled with its inert golden-section baffle design. Independently housed passive crossover circuitry, and dedicated subwoofer amplifiers with built-in active crossovers.
Our pair comes in a rare, premium Myrtle Cluster Burl finish.
