The Mississippi Sheiks were the popular and influential family string band (guitar and fiddle), that crashed boundaries, achieved crossover success and helped remap the musical landscape in the 1930s Great Depression era.

Third Man Records, the Jack White-founded record label, is partnering with Document Records to reissue the complete works of blues legends Charley Patton, Blind Willie McTell and the Sheiks. The albums (available on vinyl, in some cases, for the first time decades) feature new liner notes by Mick Middles and artwork by Rob Jones.

The Mississippi Sheiks' fluctuating lineup primarily featured the Chatmon family, who came from Bolton, Mississippi and were well known throughout the Mississippi Delta. Their initial inspiration had been gained from their father, Ezol Chatman (uncle of Charley Patton), a "musicioner" during the era of black slavery. This would be the spirit that the Mississippi Sheiks would convey to the world as they evolved into one of the most successful crossover units of the 1930s.

The recordings presented in this reissue series are the building blocks and DNA of American culture. Blues, R&B, Elvis, teenagerism, punk rock...it all goes back to these vital, breathtaking recordings.
