Both album tracks previously unissued

Volume one of Art Pepper’s Neon Art features two songs drawn from unissued performances by the alto sax master at Parnell’s in Seattle, Wash., recorded on Jan. 28, 1981. Side one features a funky romp on Art's composition, "Red Car," while side two showcases another Pepper composition, "Blues For Blanche."

I was very excited when I read that this album was available as I often frequented the venue where the music was recorded in Seattle. Sadly, I found this to be an average live recording, rather dull and lifeless. I did not remember Parnell's sounding quite so flat. The music swings and is enjoyable. Unfortunately, the vinyl was not near as flat as the recording. It caused my phono to jump and dance in the grooves. It is red and very pretty and comes in a hard sleeve. I recommend an inner sleeve to avoid scuffs.
