Rare Earth was an American rhythm and blues/rock band affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label (which was named after the band), who prospered from 1970-1972.

Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members. When they set out to record their first album for Motown, they essentially ran out of material and did a 21-minute rendition of the Temptation's "Get Ready" to fill out the space.

The album was making no headway on the charts for a long period of time. So they took the first three minutes of "Get Ready," released it as a single and it made its way into the U.S. Top Ten list, peaking at number four. Pulled along by the success of the single, the album also began to sell, breaking the Top 20, and Rare Earth's career was officially on its way.

The core of this album is the side-long monster version of "Get Ready." The epic song features various solos, and the snake-charmer sax improv by Gil Bridges is easily the highlight of the album. However, the rest of the album is just as astonishing.

This vinyl is dead, and I mean dead, quiet. I just pickred this record up in the store, not really a Rare Earth fan, just to listen to new music. The fidelity is stunning. The other reviewer is right - everything is so clear and sharp. I am really happy with this purchase.

The loudness of this record is about average, but every note will be hearable. The drums smack, the cymbals have decay. The bass is really cool and plays a major role in the second side of this record - that second side is a doozy.

The record is essentially flawless. According to discogs, this record was pressed at Record Industry, which is a Dutch outfit I've never heard of before. This pressing is so good, I will seek out other pressings by Record Industry. For some reason, I never took Music on Vinyl seriously before, but now this type of quality pressing seems to be a trend with them, so I will buy more of them.

takes me way back

This was the first album I ever purchased. I still have but of course it unplayable. I have the CD with the long version of Get Ready on it. To say there is no comparison is an uderstatement. WOW!! From the sharpness of the first drum snap to the organ solo floating in front of you this is a job well done. I have a nice system but not Maserati like. I could feel that Pete Rivera was singing from behind his drums, the soundstage is great. The guitar just reaches out and grabs you. There was a time when a little something would help music sound better. Not needed here.

Once again VINYL RULES!!!!
