Noisy Silence - Gentle Noise is the first of five LPs, which the Dave Pike Set released during the years of 1969 to 1971 and performed by the original American — German — Austrian group members. A sixth album was released by the New Dave Pike Set in which the two "front-men," Dave Samuel Pike (the group's name giver) and Volker Kriegel were no longer partnered by the other two founding members, Hans Rettenbacher (bass) and Peter Baumeister (drums), but by Eberhard Weber and Marc Hellman.
The enormous success of the group may well lie in their successful synthesis of the two musical directions which strive to approach one another. Typical for jazz-rock is the ostinato rhythm, although in this case the music is definitely biased towards improvisation — due to the fact that all the musicians came from the world of jazz. that music with such rhythm and, moreover, a frequently highly complicated musical metre can sound so uncomplicated and natural is perhaps the greatest wonder of this early milestone which comes to you.
