Recorded on various dates in 1971 and 1972, in Stockholm and Copenhagen. The late free-jazz pioneer, Don Cherry, having already released what many consider to be the founding album of World-Fusion music, Eternal Rhythm (1968), on the hip German MPS label, relocated in the early '70s to the Swedish hinterlands. There he gathered together a community of Swedish, Turkish, Brazilian and American jazz-hippies, and set about creating the monumentally ramshackle, but endearing, communal, free jazz/world-fusion classic, Organic Music Society..
Organic Music Society offers a myriad of musical styles that include Africanized free-jazz and ritual percussion, Buddhist-funk, sublimely blissful minimalism, European free-folk and mystical chanting. It's an amazing 80 minutes or so of musical mysticism, one reviewer wrote. Ragged, but sublimely beautiful, endearingly simple and, at times, frustratingly complex, melding the ancient and the modern — all the essential paradoxes of the human condition.
