Johnny Winter's amazing five decades long career continues to delight fans both new and old alike, as he maintains a very high profile concert and recording career going into his 65th year. A bulk of his most legendary recordings were on Columbia Records as he went on to become one of the label's most important rock and blues spokesmen. Recorded in 1973 and produced by the guitar great Rick Derringer, Still Alive And Well was truly a gusty, hard-rocking' affair that has stood the test of time. Noted for its incredible song selection, Johnny Winter excels on such definitive versions of the blues classic "Rock me Baby," two Rolling Stones joints, "Let It Bleed" and "Silver Train," as well as the smash title track.

It just doesn't get any better than this. Classic record reissued the right way. If you're a Johnny Winter fan I'd buy it if I were you.

This great-sounding title probably deserves 4.5 "stars" and only suffers (slightly) in comparison to recordings such as MoFi and a few other "reference-caliber" releases. Johnny Winter's "classic" rock phase (really blues-rock) spanned the late-60s to mid-70s and really hit its peak with iconic albums like "Second Winter", "Saints & Sinners", "Still Alive & Well", and the last before he went totally blue, "John Dawson Winter III". The sonics on this title really do this great recording justice. I wore my old copy out, and it had been awhile since I'd heard these songs, but this superb-sounding release stripped away the years and put this killer power-trio right in the middle of my listening room. Turn it up!

Definitely Still Alive and Well

Simply one of the best blues based albums of the period from one of rock's unsung heroes. Just payed my new copy; it's still a killer!
