Mastered from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at AcousTech Mastering.

Warren Zevon was a 10-year music industry veteran who had written songs for the Turtles, backed up Phil Everly, done years of session work and been befriended by Jackson Browne by the time he cut his self-titled album in 1976. Even though Warren Zevon was on good terms with L.A.'s mellow mafia, he sure didn't think (or write) like any of his pals in the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac; Zevon's music was full of blood, bile and mean-spirited irony, and the glossy surfaces of Jackson Browne's production failed to disguise the bitter heard of the songs on Warren Zevon. But for all their darkness, Zevon's songs also possessed a steely intelligence, a winning wit and an unusually sophisticated melodic sense, and he certainly made the most of the high-priced help who backed him on the album. Warren Zevon may not have been the songwriter's debut, but it was the album that confirmed he was a major talent, and it remains a black-hearted pop delight.

I wish I could get my money back

This record will make you think your needle fell off. It sounds totally dead, lifeless, crappy, behind a wall, only a single strand running to your speakers.

Get my drift? Find another version.

Like they said. Muffled. Cut at low volume. Distant. Drained of the the excitement that made this deput stand out. And, my copy has non-fill on side two. Guess I'll go look for an original.

Another Rhino vinyl defective release

This is another defective vinyl release from Rhino. If you are unfamiliar with the problem, google 'Tom Waits Rhino'.

Someone majorly effed up on this release. The sound is dead and muffled.

The Original LP murders this release. The 2008 Rhino remastered CD kills this release. Heck, even the original release CD is better than this release.

Acoustic Sounds describes this as being mastered by Kevin Gray. Kevin, if you care about your reputation, you need to address this, just as the Tom Waits records were addressed.

Lousy sound

I love the original, but this remaster sounds seriously muffled by comparison. This was an unpleasant surprise; most remasters by these folks sound quite nice.

Good stuff

I didn't get into Mr. Zevon till after his death. More's the pity. This is a good record but like 'The Wind' could sound a bit better. They both sound a bit like they were recorded in the bottom of a 44 gallon drum to me. Overall: good stuff!
