Recorded at Blue Heaven Studios.
This original composition by the Steinway artist Dan Knight intertwines the tradition of classical with jazz improvisation and narration utilizing the words of Walt Whitman. This is an extremely unique and compelling composition – a poetry reading set to gorgeous piano. So unique is the composition that it was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in music.
Acoustic Sounds' own Blue Heaven Studios, in Salina, Kansas, served as the space used for the piano portion of this recording. Knight played a nine-foot concert grand Steinway in the ambient-rich church sanctuary of Blue Heaven. The sound is to die for.
Knight is one of only 30 jazz Steinway artists. He was a protégé of Dr. Billy Taylor. He has played an unprecedented three consecutive years at the Montreux Jazz Festival and four consecutive years at the Edinborough Festival. He has played with many legends from Wynton Marsalis to Bobby Watson.
