The Travelin' McCourys — One Chord That Rings True
180-gram vinyl with 10 tracks of bluegrass excellence!
In May 2018, the Travelin' McCourys hit a grand slam with their first album, aptly named The Travelin' McCourys. This first album won the Grammy Award for the Best Bluegrass Album of The Year. How do you follow up such a shockingly successful start? Well, in the case of the Travelin' McCourys, you take your time, record new songs when you are not on the road, and surprise your fans with an unannounced album release seven years later! One Chord That Rings True is that long-awaited album.
"One chord that rings true" is a line almost hidden in their third song, "Passing Through." The album was produced by Ronnie McCoury (mandolin, vocals) and joined by younger brother Rob McCoury (banjo, vocals), Cody Kilby (guitar, vocals), Jason Carter (fiddle, vocals), and Alan Bartram (bass, vocals). Several singles from this album were released in the last three years, but the album was an unexpected gift!
The group's latest collection presents 10 tracks that emphasize their signature brand of bluegrass excellence as exhibited on the previously shared single, "Runaway Train," co-authored by the brothers, Ronnie and Rob's dad, Del.
Joining the brothers in the studio and across the album is fiddler Jason Carter (his last recording with the band before igniting his solo career), guitarist Cody Kilby, and bassist Alan Bartram.
The ensemble presents a diverse range of songs, drawing from Johnny Cash/ Randy Shuggs ("Passin' Thru"), Bruce Hornsby ("White Wheeled Limousine"), Paul Simon ("50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"), and others.
Side A | 1. Runaway Train | 2. The Whole of the Moon | 3. Passin’ Thru | 4. White Wheel Limousine | Side B |
2. Daydreamer | 2. Blue Letters | 3. Why Do I Feel Like Running | 4. Lonely Night | 5. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover | 6. I Like Beer |
