Jerry Garcia & David Grisman — Bare Bones: Volume 1 Master Takes

Debut volume in series exploring David Grisman and Jerry Garcia's beloved studio recordings!

Gatefold double LP with liner notes by David Grisman

Bare Bones: Volume I Master Takes is the debut volume in a new series exploring the foundation of David Grisman & Jerry Garcia's beloved studio recordings. This installment of duo recordings includes seven master takes released on Garcia/Grisman, Shady Grove, and Been All Around This World.

The remaining 12 tracks, mostly from Not For Kids Only, were recorded as duos but were embellished with percussion, fiddle, autoharp, vocal harmonies, and yes, even insects while Jerry was out touring. They are presented here for the first time in their original unadorned state on 2xLPs housed in gatefold packaging with liner notes by David Grisman.

Brilliant music but the spindle holes are too small

This is as good as music gets. Jerry was having so much fun playing Bluegrass with David Grisman, Tony Rice ('The Pizza Tapes'), & other friends. I caught a '92 show with The David Murray Quartet (legendary tenor sax player) opening up at Cal Expo. I also saw the Chinese New Year show in 1993 with Ornette Coleman opening & sitting in with the band again post space. ! I wish Jerry could have insisted the band take a hiatus around 1992, so he could chill & play in all of the various side projects he would have love to have done. "Smoke Get's In Your Eyes" was a wonderful collaboration for an early Jim Jarmusch film. He could have continued playing JGB gigs @ The Warfield of course, but he could have stopped the endless tours. IMHO he belonged in the studio towards the end. His wife shouldn't have forced him to try & get clean so fast either! Don't get me started on that subject. When you've been using as long as Jerry, you need to allow long term, chem
