Fifth album from the award-winning country singer-songwriter

Kacey Musgraves hates goodbyes, but on "Deeper Well," the title track of her forthcoming album, she learns that parting is such sweet sorrow. She's quitting weed and quoting Emmylou Harris.

She has no problem letting go if it means brighter horizons ahead. So farewell, soul suckers. So long, dark energy. And goodbye, gravity bong, writes Pitchfork.

With a folky nod to the Emmylou Harris song by the same title, Musgraves catalogs the habits she's ready to leave behind and surrenders to a new reservoir of enlightenment and replenishment. As if roused from a cannabis-induced slumber, this modern-day Sleeping Beauty finds herself in the heart of the forest without ever leaving the city: "Everything I did seemed better when I was high/I don't know why," she sings, accompanied by an acoustic guitar that's punctuated by ethereal water droplets. Her voice winds through the verses and softly recedes into an ambient spell. She's going down-do we dare to follow?

The award-winning singer-songwriter worked on the record from New York's Electric Lady Studios with collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk.

"I was seeking some different environmental energy, and Electric Lady has the best mojo," Musgraves said in a press release. "Great ghosts."

"It's a collection of songs I hold very dear to my heart," Musgraves wrote on Instagram. "I hope it makes a home in all of your hearts, too."

A press release teases the singer exploring the "moments of life that often go unnoticed" and how "deep lessons emerge" from the smallest events. She co-wrote most songs with Fitchuk and Tashian but joined Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne for the track "The Architect."

Other track titles on Deeper Well that stand out include "Dinner With Friends," "Jade Green," "Anime Eyes," and "Too Good To Be True." The first song to be released from the LP is its title track, accompanied by a video directed by Hannah Lux Davis. The track follows Musgraves learning about her life priorities and stepping away from what drains her.
