New Blue Sun is the debut solo album by American musician André Benjamin, released under his alias André 3000. As his first solo studio release, and the first studio material of his in a significant period of time, the 87-minute album largely consists of "experimental flute music" with both acoustic and electronic instrumentation, influenced by spiritual jazz musicians and minimalist composers.

The album includes eight instrumental pieces featuring a myriad of different flutes performed by Benjamin in various styles.

Benjamin announced on NPR this "alternative" project is something André has been working on for some time. Benjamin — best known as André 3000 — is one of the most celebrated artists of the last three decades, an auteur whose work in music, film, fine arts, and fashion, continues to influence the cultural landscape on a global scale. As one half of Outkast, André established a brand new voice within rap that had never been experienced before when the pair emerged in the early ’90s.

"New Blue Sun represents a continuation of adventure and discovery for me. Even inherent in the meaning of my name Andre 3000, there is a wonder or looking forward to the new or what is next. This discovery has happened many times in my life and career and it's very exciting to witness. I say ‘witness' because I am also watching it happen along with you all and I never really know what will come or how I will respond or interpret the inspiration. We all have aspirations, ideas or plans but isn't it the most awesome when life surprises us in a way that becomes greater than anything we could have imagined?
