Oklahoma's favorite weird sons The Flaming Lips have announced a massive 180-gram 5LP box set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their landmark July 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

The deluxe LP box features 40 tracks never before available on vinyl, and it will arrive like a rocket ship on April 14, 2023. The set released by Warner Records includes B-sides, demos, remixes, radio sessions, two concerts, and other assorted of-era rarities. As noted, the LP box set has 40 tracks never released on vinyl and more than 30 previously unreleased tracks overall, all told.

Additionally, during the course of 2023, the two live albums included in the box set, along with the 25-minute demo "Psychedelic Hypnotist Daydream," will be available as separate vinyl releases. Beyond that, the "Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell" and "Fight Test" singles will be released on vinyl for the first time in Spring 2023.

The set is remastered by longtime Lips production stalwart David Fridmann; the lacquer cutting was the work of Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The LPs are being pressed at Precision Record Pressing in Ontario, Canada.

Fridmann confirms that the "original recordings were on analog 24-track and Otari RADAR, mixed to DAT." Finally, The Flaming Lips' management adds the following: "The demos are from 4-track cassettes, and the live recordings and miscellaneous stuff are from CDs."

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was released in 2002 and is the band's best-selling album, certified gold in the U.S. with more than 700,000 albums sold. The album features one of the band's most iconic songs — "Do You Realize??" — plus the EPs Fight Test, Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell, and the title track. The 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition 5 LP Vinyl box set includes the original album, B-sides, demos, and radio sessions, and other assorted rarities. There are 56 tracks on the vinyl box set, of which more than 30 are previously unreleased, and 40 that will be available on vinyl for the first time.
