Grammy-winning duo return with Raise the Roof

Read the Rolling Stone article exploring how Raise the Roof, the follow-up to their Album of the Year-winning collaboration Raising Sand, originated, here.

Variety spotlights the "long-interrupted" collaboration that returns on Raise the Roof.

In 2007, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss released Raising Sand, one of the most acclaimed albums of the 21st Century. The album won six Grammys, including Album of the Year. It was an unlikely, mesmerizing pairing of one of rock's greatest frontmen with one of country music's finest and most honored artists, produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett. Now, after 14 years, they return with Raise the Roof, a dozen songs from a range of traditions and styles that extend this remarkable collaboration in new and thrilling directions.

Maybe it's the lack of soundstage or the "boomyness" as one other reviewer stated I can't help but feel the production quality had to be by choice? Maybe I need to keep listening to it a few times it may make sense. Certainly some interesting choices in mastering as everything to me seems so bunched up and the overall music never opens up. Maybe on a different TT, amp, cart, etc.? Love to hear other reviews but certainly not what I had expected.

Fidelity like Raising Sand

I bought Raising Sand in the last year, and it was/is difficult to listen to. I'll just use the word "boomy." I discovered the record was much more enjoyable when I adjusted the bias setting on my amp. It took a bit of the boom and forwardness out of it. Sadly, this record isn't much different. Beautiful songs, and they really sound great together. I just wish the recording was better.

We're graced with an encore

I don't know who did the mastering . . .or lacquers . . . or plating . . . or pressing with respect to the production of this vinyl, but the good news is all parties were competent and wise enough to simply accurately convey the collaboration of two of the most professional and talented vocalists recording today to do what they do best. As gorgeous as Allison Krause's voice is (and IS that), somehow the addition of Robert Plant’s vocal texture and power blend so beautifully and effectively - it's amazing. At times both Robert and Allison deliver individual vocalizations - but in passages where the vocals are blended . . . well it is, as they say, (even) greater than the sum of its parts. Seamless, gorgeous and powerful. They have graced us with an encore to their multi Grammy Award winning debut and there isn’t a weak track on any of the four sides. On the evening I began listening to this album I had trouble listening to anything else - just superb.
