Compilation album of singles from 2019 and 2020

The Rare Changes LP is a collection of songs Mayer Hawthorne released as singles from June 2019 to July 2020 and includes a booklet with the cover art from each single. Mayer dedicates the LP to the brave people of planet earth who are holding hands and fighting for the rare changes.

"You can call Mayer Hawthorne many things, but you can't call the man lazy. While putting out music with his side project Tuxedo, he's also kept us on the hook with a bevy of solo singles that he dropped throughout 2019 and 2020. At first we speculated whether or not Mayer had an album in the works, and now we know that he did. Well, sorta. The prolific Mr. Hawthorne rounds up all those loosies for one LP that he's named Rare Changes.

"...Mayer gives us what truly makes an album great: sequencing. The songs here aren't just thrown on haphazardly or in order of release. Instead, they're placed together to complement (our favorite being the combo of "Over," "M.O." and "The Great Divide" at the album's center). The only new track here is actually the album's short-but-sweet "Intro." But don't sleep on it, though. It's a sultry slow jam that could've easily been played during the quiet storm hour back in the '80s. In fact, our only gripe with it is that it really should've been a full-song so that we could luxuriate in its smoothness for a little while longer." — soulbounce.com

Mayer Hawthorne has come a long way since his 2008 debut, and right now he says, "Life is great." He's released three well-received full-length albums, had songs licensed for film and television, and toured the world with Bruno Mars, Foster The People, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae, and the late Amy Winehouse.

Mayer grew up just outside of Detroit in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and remembers, as a child, driving through the Motor City with his father and tuning the car radio I n to the region’s rich musical tapestry. Throughout the years he's cited Soul legends Barry White and Curtis Mayfield as inspiration, along with late hip-hop producer J Dilla. But comfortably relocated in Los Angeles, the hat he now wears is that of a yachtsman in the mold of Hall and Oates, Steely Dan and Michael McDonald.
