The Pink Floyd catalog, back on vinyl, 180-gram pressing

Mastered by Bernie Grundman

Pink Floyd Records — along with Sony Music and Warner Music Group —is reintroducing the band's classic catalog on vinyl, with release dates at regular intervals. Special care has been taken to replicate the original packaging.

Wish You Were Here is the second Pink Floyd album to use a conceptual theme written entirely by Roger Waters.

The song "Wish You Were Here" was written as tribute to founding bandmate Syd Barrett and his mental breakdown.  Bandmembers David Gilmour and Richard Wright have both cited Wish You Were Here as their favorite Pink Floyd album, and the album is widely regarded as the band's magnum opus.

I thought that it sounded excellent. No background noise as other stated. Very nice sound. It’s a very nice remaster.

Stellar Pressing! Nevermind the Nay Sayers!

Of all the Pink Floyd remasters, This record is the quietest as far as surface noise. I got mine today from Acoustic Sounds and it is absolutely amazing! Stop about the “pop and crackle” already! Just clean your record! I didn’t even have to clean mine. I wanted to hear how it sounded without and it’s Perfect! Wide soundstage deep lows, crisp mids and highs. Flat, quiet. Beautiful experience listening on my awesome system. Felt like I was at a Pink Floyd concert! Highly recommend this pressing!

I had one or two pops but in fairness I didn’t give it a cleaning. This record sounds great to me. Forget trying to buy this used hoping that someone’s VG+ rating is going to be quiet. Very happy with this purchase.

Sounds fine to me!!!

No snap-crackle-pop or noise. If you have that on any album that's new you have a bad setup on your turntable. Sounds as good as the originals on my Oracle Delphi with OriginLive Zephyr tonearm and Grado Reference cart.

The remasters is beautiful if you can get past the popping and cracking!!

This remasters is very nice! I like the soundscape more than my original Columbia copy. However, the surface mouse makes it almost impossible to enjoy! It’s just too distracting. I’ll be trading it in and keeping my original. Too bad!

I don't know what people are complaining about. My copy's dead quiet. A few pops are expected, it's vinyl, but it's really minimal on this. My pressing is clean and the sound quality is crystal clear.

Disappointed, significant background noise

I recently purchased 4 Pink Floyd LP's on the "Pink Floyd Records" label. This album, being one of my favorite Floyd albums, was the first one I pulled out to listen to. As soon as I dropped the needle I was incredibly disappointed, as the background noise, snaps, and pops were pretty bad for a brand new, $30 record. This is certainly an album that has a lot of air and open space and the significant background noise throughout is a troublesome issue. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the level of quality of this pressing from the "Pink Floyd" label.

Snap crackle and pop.

This is one of my all time favorite albums. With that said I've purchased this same pressing from three different retailers and am yet to find one without Rice Crispies in the mix. Save your money and find a different pressing. Was really looking forward to these Pink Floyd releases.

Clearer than the EMI version

I bought The Wall in both the EMI label and the Pink Floyd label. You can read the review on elsewhere on Acoustic Sounds. I mention that because I believe the quality of the Pink Floyd label is simply better than their EMI counterparts.

Immediately upon playing the Pink Floyd label version, I noticed the sound was sharper than the recent EMI remaster. It's as if they took the EMI version and buffed it to a shiny luster. Somewhere, I gave the EMI version a 5 star rating, but it needs to be changed to 4 stars, because the Pink Floyd label is now the 5 star album.

I directly compared both versions of "Have a Cigar". In the Pink Floyd version, you can more hear more symbol decay. On the guitar that starts "Wish You Were Here", you can clearly hear fingers sliding up/down the strings, while I could not on the EMI version. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

This label has now produced two albums of equal quality. I will now order the rest.
