Howard Hanson conducts the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra. During the 1950s and early '60s Mercury recorded some of the lesser-known American composers. This is one of the best of Colin McPhee's compositions. Roger Sessions' "The Black Maskers" is also an excellent little-heard American classic.
