Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Gerryck King are spectacular in this 1984 recording. Red Holloway (tenor sax) and a rare appearance by the great Emily Remler (guitar) round out the original musicians. Stan Ricker plays the bass to this day and is a big fan of Ray Brown, making his half-speed remastering of this record a special situation. RTI pressed this gem on 180-gram virgin vinyl. The LPs are individually numbered and packaged in gatefold jackets. This is the first of a special series of Pure Audiophile LPs called the "Lab Reference Series." This version of Soular Energy includes three fantastic alternate takes mixed by Phil Edwards at PER just like with the original session. Another track, "CC Rider," was added as a bonus to even out the four sides of this incredible two-LP set.

1. Exactly Like You
2. Cry Me A River
3. Teach Me Tonight
4. Take The 'A' Train
5. Mistreated But Undefeated Blues
6. That's All
7. Easy Does It
8. Sweet Georgia Brown
9. Mistreated but Undefeated Blues (alternate take)
10. Cry Me A River (alternate take)
11. Take The 'A' Train (alternate take)
12. CC Rider

"Must have" LP for Ray Brown/Gene Harris Fans

Took this LP to a gathering of vinyl lovers. After listening, it was agreed this is a "must have" album if you like jazz and especially Ray Brown. The performance is what you would expect from Brown and Harris who are in top form. Emily Remler and Red Holloway are icing on the cake on Brown's own "Mistreated But Undefeated Blues" and young Gerryck King proves he can hang with the best of them. Every track is a gem and the sonics are as good as it gets. Kudos to Pure Audiophile and Stan Ricker their fine work on this reissue of a classic.

I thoroughly enjoy any music of which Ray Brown and/or Gene Harris are part, so I had high expectations upon receiving this 180 gram LP. I was not disappointed. This is a jaw-dropping piece of work-both sonically and musically. A definite thumbs up!

This is a superb Jazz trio, playing great tunes, with unbelievable sound quality. A top notch pressing. You will love this one. It sounds so warm - as if you were in the room with the musicians. This is without a doubt one of the best LP's I own now!

Wonderful music, fantastic musicians who play with fun and passion. And last but not least, the sonics are everything I was led to expect by the legions of reviewers who sing the praises of this beautiful work on fabulous vinyl. Clean and clear as you could want. I pulled out my best jazz trio CDs for comparison, with friends present, and all agreed that none of the CDs came close.

Very well done. Highly, highly recommended. If you are a fan of fun music played exceedingly well, with better sonics than anything I have heard, you will absolutely love this album. Even if you are not, it will still put a smile on your face. Buy it and enjoy!!
