From today's perspective, we see Grieg's adaptation of Mozart's sonatas once again as a historical phenomenon. We are once again familiar with Mozart's piano sonatas in their original sound picture (on historical and modern pianos). Even Grieg's arrangement of the first piano would probably seem very strange to us. Grieg's four Mozart sonatas are for us music of nineteenth century – as is also, say, Tchaikovsky's Mozartiana.
