"High-performance portable audio is the fastest-growing segment in consumer audio. The reason is pretty obvious: our more mobile society. The big trend that has accompanied this is streaming, which keeps your music library "up in the cloud," accessible by virtually any Internet-savvy portable device. But what about those music lovers whose musical interests are more focused and not well served by streaming services created more for popular tastes? For those who like to keep their music libraries more earthbound, companies like FIIO, Astell & Kern, HiFiMan, Sony, and iBasso have produced portable players that let users take their libraries with them when they travel." About the Calyx M Player

Calyx Audio of South Korea manufactures the M — a DSD capable, high-resolution hand held music player. The M also does double duty as a digital-to-analog converter, and the custom-designed software lets users browse and create playlists on the go. The Calyx M offers users the ability to store up to 448 GB worth of music with one SD and one Micro SD card slot. Digital conversion is handled by the ESS Labs ES9018S-2M chip then sent to a discrete class A analog output stage. Sound quality is what music aficionados expect from Calyx, and the M delivers! Bass extension and power belies the look of the M with its sleek and light chassis. A 4.65 inch Gorilla glass high definition OLED screen that is responsive, rugged and reliable. Whether through headphones or your audio system music is highly detailed and effortless sounding.

Portable Music Player

Your music stored on the M is only a touch away. The M:USE proprietary user interface is intuitive, attractive and feature packed. Browse your music by Artist, Album and Tracks. The search feature allows you to find what you’re looking for quickly. Swipe the screen to the left and you can create multiple playlists in the “Jukebox”. Been in the Audio business a long time. There are very few things that impress me, especially when the cost involved can be quite high for true performance. I've owned some very good equipment over the years, but the Calyx "M" has to be about the best investment yet. I stacked it up against a very expensive SACD player and it sonically beat it on just about every front. The broad mid-range (vocal range) of this player is so easy to listen to that sessions become a new adventure. When coupled with the right equipment the "M" provides as fine a source as any I've ever owned... and that includes a radical turntable that I thought would never lose its' crown. Great job Calyx... now my music travel's with integrity!

I purchased the Calyx to use strictly as a portable music player. It does this very well. The real surprise is how good the Calyx M sounds when used as a standalone USB DAC. I’ve been through many DAC’s in my computer based system. I’ve tried Musical Fidelity, Parasound, Meridian, Rotel, Teac UD-501, Mytek Stereo 192, Chord Qute HD, and the Auralic Vega in this system. I honestly have to say that none of them outperformed the Calyx M in my system. I was planning on ordering a Chord 2Qute but I am very satisfied with what I am hearing with this little DAP as my DAC. The fact that it doubles as a great portable DSD player and costs less than $1K is the icing on the cake.

Holy s#$t! Now this thing sounds good, too many expletives to say good. It blows the AK240 away in my humble opinion, and I have had the 240 for a year and a half. It took me 2 familiar tracks to make that decision. Everything else mobile that I have been clinging to is now going to the classifieds. Period. Battery life is the only issue I see, and to me it's not that much of an issue. I have heard the Sony, the latest Hifiman player and own red wine audio moded A&Ks (100 and 240) and several great portable amps. The Calyx is the best mobile sound I have yet to hear. Well done! Thanks again Chris. More people need to know about this player. Sounds like my Woo Audio WA-7 fireflies tubes...pretty much blown away right now.
