"Tupelo," the opening track of The Firstborn Is Dead is perhaps the most defining song of early period Bad Seeds. — The Quietus
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are giving their back catalog the heavyweight vinyl reissue treatment in collaboration with former member Mick Harvey. After the acquisition of the band's Mute Recordings albums by BMG in 2013, the founding member-turned solo artist has overseen remastering of 14 of their records for 180-gram vinyl.
1985's The Firstborn Is Dead introduced a more dominant blues feel to the Bad Seeds sound, signaling a new direction that the band was headed in. The opening track, "Tupelo," is loosely based on John Lee Hooker's "talking blues" of the same name, which recalls a great flood that befell the town of Tupelo, Mississippi in April 1936. The song also mixes in legend themes arrising from Tupelo as the birthplace of The King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley.
Black vinyl reissue of the second album from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on 180-gram vinyl, includes free download card.
