Double LP 45 RPM set pressed at Quality Record Pressings

A new symphonic tour-de-force from the Kansas City Symphony!

"Congratulations on another superb pressing job! This program may have the widest dynamic range of any Reference Recording, with a lot of music right down at the bottom. Any groove noise would mask it, and I'm happy to say I hear none. Surfaces are 'spooky quiet,' hooray! Centering and other aspects are fine, too. Thanks!" — Tam Henderson, founder of Reference Recordings.

"Do not, I mean this absolutely, let this one pass you by. It is a treat at all levels, and just you wait till you hear the string section’s technical finesse and execution throughout." — Harry Pearson, HPSoundings

This colorful, beloved Engiish music has been captured in brillant HDCD sound by Grammy-winning engineer Keith O. Johnson.

The Kansas City Symphony garnered tremendous critical acclaim for their first project on Reference Recordings, incidental music for The Tempest by Sullivan and Sibelius. Their second release on Reference Recordings, Britten's Orchestra, received a Grammy for Best Surround Sound tor both the engineer and producer, as well as rave reviews everywhere!

Reference is thrilled to work again with Conductor Michaei Stern, the son of famed violinist Isaac Stern. Now in his eighth season as music director, the Kansas City Symphony has been much praised tor its remarkabie artistic growth and development since his tenure began. He is also the founder of the Iris Chamber Orchestra in Memphis, Tennessee, and in addition to RR, has recorded tor Sony, Hyperion, Denon, Arabesque and Naxos. Producer David Frost has won Grammy awards in 2005,2009 and 2011 for Classical Producer ot the Year. He has produced a large roster of stars and Grammy-winning titles.

It is remarkable that in the 1950s and 1960s sound engineers knew how to record a symphonic orchestra. Obviously in the XXI century, they don't. This recording is a sonic soup. It is not precised on what speakers this bouillon was mixed, but I can guarantee they were not JBL professional studio monitors! These guys should embark on a Mercury Living Presence experience for ear opening. Do not believe the grandiose reviews from the media. As for the musical value, riding on a famous name does not cut it: it's anemic. I truly feel that I wasted $50 on the half speed mastered 45 RPM version.
