Even before Pink Floyd thrust their musical message of protest, The Mechano-hit The Wall, under the noses of the establishment and the established, the melancholic songs of the group Supertramp had long found their way into the hearts of the young who had been shaken by one crisis after the other. The LP with its surrealistic, chilling cover and eye - raising title was a success all over the world and even the sternest critics showered it with praise. Their music just floods the senses; it is as though someone has put on all the good pop records of the '60s and '70s at the same time, lamented the music magazine SOUNDS helplessly - totally fascinated by their sound. Crime Of The Century provided plenty of fodder for the hit charts and radio DJs. And even today, the balladesque collage School with its bloodcurdling harmonica introduction, the pearl-like Rhodes piano chords in the rocking Bloody Well Right, and the childlike, Mocking Dreamer are the epitome of the pop cult of the '70s. The recording quality of this disc is excellent, and what is more - it has been judged the very best album that the English quintet ever produced. Celebrate the records 25th birthday with a fantastic vinyl re - release fresh from the press.

Wow!

I had read several favorable reviews of the Speaker's Corner version besides those posted here, so my expectations were pretty high when I ordered it. The vinyl is flat, quiet, and stout. And the sonics are unlike I have ever heard before of this recording. I was simply mesmerized at the sound. My MFSL UDI digital will now be retired as my definitive version, having been replaced by this wonderful sounding edition. Per usual, Acoustic Sounds staff, ordering process, shipping & packaging were all terrific!

Second Times A Charm

I noticed one other reviewer had a problem with side one's first track; my copy looked like someone set a warm iron on the same area. But the second copy proved worth it all. Superb rendering of this iconic album, which I still believe is ST at their finest. Very quiet, with excellent seperation, depth/width of soundstage, imaging, ect. So far I've been quite pleased with the titles from Speakers Corner, despite the hiccup on this.

Speakers Corner did a marvelous job on this title. Quiet vinyl as always and clean, crisp dynamics all the way through. The old Mofi reissue was good. This puts it to shame! If you're a Supertramp fan by all means get this!

Supertramp - what a fantastic band. Good quality sound on this LP. Very happy, except, something must have gone wrong with my pressing - track1 has some serious 'popping' sounds for the 1st 10 seconds or so.

One of my favorite albums

The sound is big and detailed. Similarly the music is at times orchestral, at times intimate. A great record to test out your system. More importantly a record in which to become completely absorbed. A most satisfying release. I have an older audiophile pressing with which I was most pleased. This release is better again.

In general I prefer original vinyl issues over heavy vinyl reissues. However Speakers Corner has done a great job with Supertramp's Crime of the Century. The sound is very lush and maintains the "analog magic" that so many classic rock reissues somehow lose. Compared to my original US copy, the SC version is slightly less detailed but has a much smoother sound. Recommended for those skeptical regarding reissues.

Perfect sound & classic songs!

This has been one of my favourites since teenage and still holds up both musically and lyrically . It's great dynamics remains a gold standard with witch to test any stereo and this modern pressing remains faithfull to the origional if not a little more bright . Clead , crisp , powerfull and silent . Well done .

How about a 180 or 200 gm version ?
