SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.

- Two-channel SACD layer only, to secure enough reflectance and not to compress DSD file.
- Label of the disc is printed with a special green ink called 'Onsho Shiyou,' which minimizes diffuse reflection.
- Carefully selected master audio is used, from existing DSD files to newly converted from analog tapes.

Almost certainly Elton John's biggest seller, save his first greatest hits collection. The hits on this sprawling double disc set include "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," the title track, and "Bennie and the Jets," and the album tracks include: "Love Lies Bleeding" and "Candle in the Wind."

Love the SHM-SACD format but this one does not have the dynamics or clarity of others. For $60 it should be better than a $15 CD and I cant say it is. Captain Fantastic SHM-SACD blows this one away sonically. Much better tunes here but not a state of the art presentation. Let the buyer beware. Dont blame the format this disc just misses the mark. I have 30 others and this one sounds ordinary when this should blow me away. No real deep gut wrenchng bass or high resolution piano/guitar. Must not have gotten a good Master Tape.

Better than Universal

Earlier last year I went out and bought the horrific American SACD version which to my ears was bright and screechy sounding when played back on the Sony SCDXA5400ES & Conrad Johnson gear. Then I purchased this SHM Japanese SACD version and I think it sounds a lot warmer with a more musically involving presentation which sounds similar to my old pristine vinyl copy of the MFSL 1/2 Speed version. By the way, I have not had such success with other SACD's in this Japanese series which tend to sound sharp and brittle in my opinion. However, this version of E.J.'s GYBR is superior sounding to all other digital media I've heard thus far.

An expensive disappointment.

Yeah, so I tried this SHM SACD. I'll sell it as used and keep playing my SACD multichannel version (still available for about $25.00) that comes with a third disc -- a DVD of the making of the original album. Just because there is a new version does not make it better than the previous one.
