Bill Evans made two albums in 1959 that had a profound impact on jazz history — Kind of Blue with Miles Davis and this debut disc by Evans’ first permanent working unit. The fluidity and interdependence these three developed forever changed the face of the piano trio, introducing new notions of shading, balance, and poetic lyricism, not to mention the superhuman virtuosity of the tragically short-lived bassist Scott LaFaro.

I missed out on the 45 which sold out fast. My copy came scratched and I was out for the shipping to get a replacement. Unusual from AP, but annoying. This is a great album with upbeat rhythm, a must have record most jazzers know about.

Warm and Wonderful

This LP bests the excellent SACD in all the expected categories: warmth, low-end and smoothness. Soundstaging is also very natural. I listen mostly on an analog rig with tubes and high-end headphones. This record has barely left the turntable since I got it. Can't get enough of Scotty's bass as it's conveyed here! Nice job. Let's have the rest of the Evans/LaFaro stuff on new LPs, now. Please.
