Music of the Spheres posted on 10/20/2007 5 Stars Reviewer: Jack Lawson R. Strauss wrote great music but was capable of genius. In my opinion, Also Sprach is his masterpiece and despite the stereotypes of German orchestras and conductors Mehta and the LAPO created a partnership which scaled the highest levels. Given the importance of detail, dynamics and the subtle colors of such orchestration the additional bonus of Decca's engineering of this era (in my opinion the ultimate) we have here an issue of very high merit. Just put aside enough time to complete the music as you will not be torn away until the very end. The music is very gripping and Zubin Mehta has grasped a lot more meaning than other performances known to me, even the amazing Karajan recordings.
