Donovan first emerged as part of the ruling class of 1960’s singer-songwriters. More than just “England’s answer to Bob Dylan,” Donovan’s music evolved from its folk roots into something truly unique and has endured the test of time. It encompasses a full blend of social commentary, introspective trippiness and, yes... cosmic sounds. This collection showcases the talents of the artist and his art. Combining Donovan’s Pye/Hickory recordings and his Epic label releases, this musical collection is a journey into the world of a musical poet….the world of a storyteller….the world of Donovan.
"…The 45's sound is absolutely stupendous and this Steve Hoffman mastered set (with actual disk cutting by Kevin Gray) is worth purchasing just for the 45, though the twelve song 33 1/3 LP also sounds fine, especially if you're used to the American Hickory originals. The recording is natural, acoustic and the kind the world seems incapable of providing today." Music = 8/11; Sound = 9/11 – Michael Fremer, musicangle.com

| I have to say I really love this recording. Although I was actually quite young when these songs originally came out, I have very pleasant memories of the "hits" from here - Atlantis, Catch the Wind, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman. I had no idea the sonic quality of these recordings, especially since all I probably ever listened to them on was a transistor radio. These are lush, intimate recordings, full of thick, rich bass, intimate mids (the voice is so present!), and crisp highs. Lovely musicality to the recordings, and many songs I'd never heard before. Especially valuable for the 45rpm versions of Atlantis and Hurdy Gurdy Man. Lovely music, very timely!
