"...the performance of the Pro-Ject Debut III startled me with the level of musical realism possible at this price...an excellent first turntable to suck an incipient if not quite budding audiophile into the hobby. So listen up, youts: Bag those MP3s and get into vinyl." - Robert J. Reina, Stereophile, February 2010

Pro-Ject Debut III includes a pre-mounted Ortofon OM-5E Moving Magnet phono cartridge and is an excellent choice for the audiophile seeking a cost-effective vinyl playback solution. A felt-covered steel platter mates to a chrome plated stainless-steel axle running in a brass bearing housing for exceptional speed stability and accuracy. The aluminum tonearm employs inverted hardened stainless-steel points for superior tracking with the supplied phono cartridge. A silicone-damped armlift is supplied. Matte Black Finish.

"Everything from the packaging to the fit'n'finish to the tonearm of the new Debut III is a step up from the earlier versions…In fact, the entire package – including the heavy steel platter, the suspended motor, and the aluminum crowned – pulley system – looks and feels more precise. The Debut III offered surprisingly quiet backgrounds, with none of the hollow, somewhat metallic colorations formerly common in 'tables at or near this low price. Image stability was also impressive, and dynamic were well served…I have no hesitation about recommending Pro-Ject's Debut III – especially with the Speed Box Mk.II – as an entry-level analog product for the skeptical digital devotee. The combo is laughably good." – Michael Fremer, Stereophile, July 2006

This is an excellent turntable if like me, you are just getting into vinyl or are on a budget. Now, granted I would rather rock a vpi or mcintosh but I recommend this turntable for all those who want to hear vinyl quality without paying through the nose.

So far the Debut III player is great. Highs are crisp clear and sustaining, lows are clearly defined and not smudgy. I did notice very, very little motor hum, with nothing spinning and the volume cranked. Ala, Terminator to Kate Brewster after he catches the bullet with his teeth, "Don't Do Dat".. Overall very happy so far. Will update when necessary.

Don't get me wrong. This baby will do the work. If you are on a budget or a beginner, this is the right one to go. Don't be afraid. For less than 600 bucks there is no match to this fine piece of equipment.

Great entry-level TT

For the price, you really can't beat this turntable. There are obviously nicer and better turntables on the market, but if you are looking to get into vinyl and aren't sure if you want to commit, then this turntable wont break your bank, but it will give you that great vinyl sound every time you switch it on. Setup was very easy and it has strong build quality.

A great way to get back into vinyl. I routinely experience the "better-than-CD" sound with this setup. You can hardly go wrong with this entry level system. The Ortofon 5 cartidge is very good but I have found it to be vulnurable to picking up magnetic field interference from nearby equipment. (I came to this conclusion after serveral tests, including shorting the cartridge leads.)
