David & David’s Boomtown is a hard look at urban life in the 1980s, a time when many were fulfilling the American Dream of financial success and upward mobility. It is not an easy album to listen to, as the characters depicted in the songs are often dealing with major problems such as drugs and domestic violence. But it is an artful record, full of poetry and convincing stories of the hard times that many silently endured… ‘Welcome to the Boomtown' is the hit off the album, and is one of various cuts that convincingly detail the many trials of the characters such as Kevin, who 'deals dope out of Denny’s keeps a table in the back.’" — Michael Ofjord, All Music Guide

The title track was a big hit in Australia back in the 80's and the main reason I bought the cd. I fell in love with the rest of the album from then on and have played it constantly since.

I was able to purchase a second hand vinyl copy last year and after a clean up it sounds okay but still cracks and pops. I have ordered a copy of the 200g version however the site states, limited stock. I hope it is still available as I am keen to own this upgraded version.

Great album from the mid-80s. This pressing is excellent. Much better than the original. And absolutely worth the price.

Think about this: It's pressed on 200gm vinyl. They don't generally go to the trouble of pressing inferior music on 200gm vinyl. The sound is good, listenable. The music has influences of motown, reggae, a touch of country sensibilty, with enough complexity to hold your intrest, signatured with 80's sound, and with an organic feel to stand the test of time. Stories are of the darker side of the human experience. The song writing is comparable to Dylan, Springsteen, Henley. Quality of pressing is fine, quiet, nuances intact. Were you makin' the scene in the 80's? This is possibly the best record from the era, all things considered. At this price, you ain't gonna lose -- and probably pat yourself on the back. Myself, I'm buying an extra copy just to have around.

Outstanding reissue and unbeatable price

How can you not pick up a copy at this price. If you are unfamiliar with this album, my advice would be, if you are a fan of 80's pop/rock, then pick up a copy. This was a minor hit in the 80's all though it did go gold and had a couple of top fourty hits. I have the origional pressing, and this one is a step up. You will not be disappointed.

one of the great albums of the 90's. such a great promise for such great music. Their first and last effort is truly a great rock and roll record. Every song is good. Wish they would have stuck around.

Sounds Great

This is one of those albums that not a lot of people know but those who do, love. For my money, it could be the best album of the 80's but I'm not sure if that's saying much. I had an old copy on vinyl that was worn out. I had replaced it on CD but that version always sounded extremely thin and tinny to me. This brings back the life to the album for me and sounds just like I remember way back in '85.

great album

I have favored this recording since first hearing this pair on NYC public radio one sunday morning many years ago. The sound quality of this cut is one of the best within my 1500 LP collection. Strong attitude and wonderfully, creatively composed. You should buy this LP before it's no longer available.
