Peter Gabriel introduced his fifth studio album So with “Sledgehammer,” an Otis Redding-inspired soul-pop raver that was easily his catchiest, happiest single to date. Needless to say, it was also his most accessible, and, in that sense it was a good introduction to So, the catchiest, happiest record he ever cut. “Sledgehammer” propelled the record toward blockbuster status, and Gabriel had enough songs with single potential to keep it there. There was “Big Time,” another colorful dance number; “Don’t Give Up,” a moving duet with Kate Bush; “Red Rain,” a stately anthem popular on album rock radio; and “In Your Eyes,” Gabriel’s greatest love song which achieved genuine classic status after being featured in Cameron Crowe’s classic, Say Anything. This release features the additional tune “We Do What We’re Told (Milgrames 37)” that was originally not on the Geffen vinyl issue in 1986.

Maybe it's just some copies, but this is terrible, lots of noise, sacratchs, skips, etc... But it would be such a high coincidence that both, So and Us Peter Gabriel Vinyls sound like this! I hope Peter Gabriel was as caring as Tom Waits, and would offer an exchange for this vinyls!

Dissappointing

I love this album, but I regrettably have to give this pressing a big thumbs down. Certain parts sounds very staticky and scratchy. Very dissappointing for a 200 gram purchase and that's why I'm grading it a little harshly. I've purchased other 200 gram recordings from AR and have been very happy for the most part. Before plopping down $50, listen to the other reviewers, I wish I had.

I received a bad pressing

Sibilance is just as annoying on this release as on the original CD. A shame as the music is wonderful. Maybe I received a bad pressing and Mr Fremer didn't.

simply awesome

I have loved this album for decades but hearing it on the 200 gram vinyl format has given me a whole new appreciation for the dedication and detail that peter gabriel puts into his recordings. The imaging and 3d soundstage is so much more pronounced than my old regular pressing.Very few artists dare to combine such radio friendly hits with such obscure dark treasures.Simply awesome

my favourite PG album, and eagerly awaited on heavy vinyl. the quieter tracks did not disappoint, with don't give up and we do what we're told particularly memorable. the busier tracks were disappointing. remastering levels seem too high. sibilence on sledgehammer very noticable. nasty scratch on red rain also quite upsetting for a mint condition record.
