E RUBY DAC
D/A Converter or Processor
The Ruby module is more than just a DAC. It is a 7 channel digital pre-amp, with a built-in FM radio.
It is designed to add a variety of digital inputs and radio to second generation EVO 50A integrated amps.
The module is mounted on a metal plate that fits into the expansion slot normally used for Line input 5; the same as for AMBIT.
Like the AMBIT module, it is held in place by two screws and connected with a single flat-foil cable to the pre-amp.
2 x Co-Axial SPDIF inputs (24/192)
2 x Optical TOSLINK inputs (24/192)
1 x USB Class 1 (24/96) input; no drivers required for high resolution replay on either PC or MAC.
1 x FM radio input is based on the AMBIT circuit but using its SPDIF digital output. The digital signal is then converted to audio using the Ruby’s high-quality DAC, not the one built-in to the radio circuit. 1 x Bluetooth input, with external antenna. HID controls allow Play, Pause, Stop, Track forward/back from the remote handset.
When fitted, software carried in the RUBY’s flash memory automatically updates the EVO 50A’s software code and shows all the extra inputs and functions via the EVO 50A’s OLED display.
The Ruby uses a single Wolfson DAC circuit similar to the EVO 50CD, which uses two.
Line 5 is used to connect to the Ruby’s audio output and it is fully symmetrical to prevent a ground loop. When used, Line 5 is no longer displayed, but each addition input is navigated via the left hand control knob.
Fitting the RUBY doesn’t prevent the EVO 50A from also using a Sequel mk2 Phono pre-amp.
