A "Saturday Night Party Album" for the ages!

2020 release from The Foo Fighters on 140-gram LP

Their 10th album featuring big guitars, big grooves, and big choruses!

At the beginning of 2020, says Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters looked at their schedule and saw "an entire world-domination itinerary in front of us." There was to be a very special U.S. headline run — labelled the Van Tour — in which the rock titans would be celebrating the 25th anniversary of their inception. Then, they would unleash their 10th studio album — the follow-up to 2017's excellent Concrete And Gold. With the record finished in February and their live schedule carefully plotted out, the future beckoned — and then, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world.

Medicine at Midnight is that new album from Foo Fighters, and it packs nine new songs into a tight-ass 37 minutes. This collection includes the smoldering new single, "Shame Shame." Medicine at Midnight is produced by Greg Kurstin and the Foo Fighters — Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, and Rami Jaffee.

Grohl occupied his time wisely in the subsequent months. From surprising key workers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic to covering "Times Like These" for charity and finally joining Instagram to tell some of his life's most fascinating tales, there was no shortage of Foos fun — only a lack of new music for fans to enjoy.

Now, the engines in Foos HQ are rumbling once more. They tore up the stage on their appearance on Saturday Night Live and released a new single "Shame Shame" — a searing, scorched-earth epic that explores their very darkest corners.

We were ready to implement our world-dominating routine, and then everything just stopped," Grohl tells NME. "The whole band just went our separate ways and it was the first time we'd had a substantial break from the Foo Fighters in forever. Whether we'd been recording or touring, or making documentaries, we've been on it for fucking years! To have it grind to a halt was really strange. But, ever the optimist, I found a lot of beautiful moments in things calming down. First and foremost, everyone went home and made sure their friends and family were safe."

"After five or six months, we realized that our normal routine didn't apply anymore. Right now, no one is going out on the road, so how do we connect with our audience and deliver the music we were so excited to give to the world? A couple of months ago, we just started up the machine again and decided it's time! The most important thing is that people can hear the songs. I love playing live and all the other bells and whistles that come along with being in the Foo Fighters, but these songs were made to be heard. It's time!"

Grohl says Medicine At Midnight is a "party album."

"A lot of our favorite records have these big grooves and riffs. I hate to call it a funk or dance record, but it's more energetic in a lot of ways than anything we've ever done and it was really designed to be that Saturday night party album. It was written and sequenced in a way that you put on, and nine songs later you'll just put it on again. Y'know, songs like ‘Making A Fire.' To me that's rooted in Sly & The Family Stone grooves, but amplified in the way that the Foo Fighters do it."
