2015 vinyl reissue

Released in 1990, Shake Your Money Maker immediately established The Black Crowes as a formidable rock 'n' roll band in the tradition of The Rolling Stones and The Faces. Rolling Stone magazine and its readers named the Crowes the Best New American Band in 1990, and this album scored a string of excellent singles, including "Jealous Again," "Hard to Handle" (an Otis Redding cover), and "She Talks to Angels," which touched on drug addiction.

In those pre-grunge days, The Black Crowes were one of the few rock 'n' roll bands landing hits with smart songwriting and an organic sound of tough guitars and a Hammond B-3 organ (played by none other than The Rolling Stones' keyboard man and former Allman Brothers member Chuck Leavell). The album has a deep bench. "Twice As Hard," "Sister Luck," and "Seeing Things" capture a Southern rock that's strong in all areas of writing and performance, while a flat-out rocker like "Thick N' Thin" is the kind of upbeat shuffle that the Stones threw onto Exile on Main Street.

1. Twice As Hard
2. Jealous Again
3. Sister Luck
4. Could I've Been So Blind
5. Seeing Things
6. Hard To Handle
7. Thick n' Thin
8. She Talks To Angels
9. Struttin' Blues
10. Stare It Cold

Lifeless, muffled sound. 180 gram vinyl and quality packaging are used by many labels as marketing ploys. They want you think these attributes are synonymous with an overall quality product. Not always so.

Lifeless Mash-Up

Could not disagree more with above review. Pressed @ United and totally disappointed. Put on another record because I thought something was wrong on my system...... Nope, just a bad united pressing. Stinks. Stay away from all 180g United pressed records &/or whomever mastered this. Too bad, cause this album is great.

Its been one looooooooong wait.I hope after all this time we get some quality Crowes vinyl releases.Perhaps theyll have got it right the first time and we wont have to shell out multiple times for a decent pressing. One can hope after all.UPDATE THIS ALBLUM CAN FINALLY BE HEARD THE PROPER WAY.iT FLAT OUT SOUNDS AMAZING.It finally is able to breathe, nice seperation swirling organs and guitars and with some depth and presence ,I might add.My only complaint is the flimsy stock card jacket. It will crush any digital version you ever heard .HIGHLY RECOMENDED,BUY BUY BUY!
