Muse returns in 2022 with Will of the People. Recorded in London and Los Angeles and produced by Muse, Warner Records said the album spans multiple genres, describing "Will of the People" as a "glam rocker" and "Kill or Be Killed" as "industrial."
Muse's frontman, Matt Bellamy, said it was spurred by Warner's request for a greatest hits album; instead, Muse decided to make an album that combined their previous sounds, describing it as essentially "a greatest hits album — of new songs."
"This album was created in Los Angeles and London and is influenced by the increasing uncertainty and instability in the world. A pandemic, new wars in Europe, massive protests and riots, an attempted insurrection, Western democracy wavering, rising authoritarianism, wildfires and natural disasters and the destabilisation of the global order all informed Will Of The People. It has been a worrying and scary time for all of us as the Western empire and the natural world, which have cradled us for so long are genuinely threatened. This album is a personal navigation through those fears and preparation for what comes next." — Matt Bellamy
