Early Hours takes McEvoy’s music to new heights. Couched now in a mature jazz/blues context, her melodic and sensitive songs - packed as ever with wryly insightful social observation - benefit from first rate performances by McEvoy and her amazing players. Early Hours is all the more sumptuous for the high quality recording at London’s Metropolis Studio.

Clean SACD recording of McEvoy's new low key import. Highest quality of recording that anyone would expect, I just had a hard time listening to it. The 5.1 mix is nice and wide... and clean, but, the vocals are tightly bound to the center channel and it can be distracting. I preferred the 2 chan. mix on some songs.. 5.1 on others. Outside of the vocals, there is very little to distract you from the low key, almost acoustic, blues style.. McEvoy fans will not be disappointed, but expect to only listen to this when you are looking to chill. The album never really picks up and rocks even on the up beat "Days Roll By". Buy this after Yola, and get that after What's Following Me.
