More than 30 years ago, Miles Davis recorded this music in the company of such other giants as Milt Jackson, Thelonious Monk, Kenny Clarke, Percy Heath, Sonny Rollins and Horace Silver. Today, the music they made is regarded as classic. Bags' Groove is a perfect illustration of the improvisatory process, and the various delights that can develop from take to take; the date with Rollins reveals his development towards major status. It is hard to believe that having heard these 1954 recordings, the critics could have called Davis' triumph at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1955 a comeback.

This LP really delights with all the stars shining at night. A real clean groove in every way possible. Only downside is having to flip the Lp after only one song but ohhh that one song!

You can't beat the synergy you get with this album. And the new 45RPM LP version is just mind-blowing in it's clarity and openness. Several of the tracks were recorded at other times, but suffice to say the way the group improvises and explores them makes each song unique. If you're a fan of any of the musicians in the group, get this album- you'll thank yourself for it.

Terrific recording, worth the price of admission for the milt jackson set. Overall, a bit eclectic, but all very good.

I'm a MAJOR collector of Miles items (visit http://servercc.oakton.edu/~larry/miles/milestones.html to see my collection) and this 45 RPM version of Bags Groove is simply the best version I've seen (and heard) in a long long time. Pass up those noisy $200~300 versions on the auction sites and get this one...you'll find it was a sound investment!
