Hands down, one of the greatest festival recordings ever. After being unavailable for nearly 20 years, this great 2-record set from 1973 is available again. The dates: September 8-10, 1972, the place: Otis Spann Memorial Field, Ann Arbor, MI, the performers recorded: Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf with Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Luther Allison, Hound Dog Taylor, Koko Taylor with Willie Dixon, Bobby Blue Bland, Dr. John, Chuck Leavell, Jr. Walker and The All Stars, Johnny Shines, Bonnie Raitt, Sippie Wallace and Sun Ra and His Solar Myth. An incredible three days of powerful music for the 15,000 plus in attendance, that hopefully someday will be revisited with the full sets by each artist including those who also performed, but are not represented in this LP, like Miles Davis, Pharaoh Sanders, and Lightnin' Slim.

Look it, if you didn't love music you wouldn't be reading this review in the first place! You'd be buying the latest crap on CD from Walmart or better yet downloading the mp3. This is a no brainier,(8) 180gr single sided 45rpm LP box set of some of the greatest blues artists ever (come on Willie Dixon,Muddy Waters,Hound Dog Taylor etc.)sound too die for and all for sale for $60 bucks! Don't take my word, but Michael Fremer from Stereophile & musicangle.com, said buy this album and the man knows what he's talking about. To quote another great American, I pity the fool who don't buy this LP! P.S. If you buy this and don't think a great deal you can give it to me,I'll be happy to have another copy.

The wife was away for the weekend leaving me and the dog. This box had arrived and I decided to turn off the lights and listen whilst lying on the sofa with the light from the valves the only illumination. I wasn't there in 1972 but this box gives you the opportunity to travel back in time and listen to some wonderful blues and jazz recorded with excellent microphone placing for a live recording. If you close your eyes you can almost smell the mud, beer, sweat etc. The 45rpm pressings were all uniformally excellent. I liked all of it - the dog is not keen on Sun Ra!
