This has always been my favorite Joel album both sentimentally and for the songs themselves. Though not one of his best sonically, it definitely showcases an aspiring songwriter and musician. Sound wise, I was impressed with a few tracks that I heard subtle differences between the original Columbia as well as the more favored Japanese pressings. On the track Ain't No Crime the backup vocals are clearer and definitive. Joel's voice on You're My Home sounds sweet, innocent, and more heartfelt. It is truly a shame that the master tapes reveal a weakness in orchestral arrangements ie. The Ballad of Billy the Kid and it was no real surprise when I heard no improvements on this rendition. Having said that, the best sounding rendition of this recording in my mind has been and always will be the vinyl format. To me this MOFI release is a definite must have and in this case, I was not disappointed. I am certainly looking forward to more Joel releases by MOFI. Well done indeed!

This was never going to be an audiophile recording, rarely crisp or vibrant -- but the rich sound and occasionally vast soundstage of this fantastic reissue had me up and dancing to songs from which I thought I'd long ago extracted all possible pleasure. Given the original tapes they had to work with, this is a great re-issue, sweet and mellifluous. Soaring strings. Smokey piano. More like this, please!

This is much richer and fuller than my original. Its volume levels are very very low otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
