Let's Get It On was Marvin Gaye's record of sheer sensuality and carnal energy. Each performance was laced with innuendo and sheer erotic force. Gaye's passions reach their absolute boiling point on the title track smash hit, which rose to No. 1 on the charts and became the most successful single ever released on a Motown label. Let's Get It On is a landmark record that remains the blueprint for all the slow jams that have followed in its wake.

Music Direct/MoFi has done a very nice job with this reissue. I compared it to an original pressing and to my ears, it sounded virtually identical. The MoFi sounded great from the moment the stylus landed in the grooves. It was immediately involving. The bass sounded just right and the vocals sound both warm and present. Interestingly, I also compared it with Universal's "Deluxe Edition" CD version from 2001. The Deluxe CD version sounds very different from both vinyl versions due primarily to substantial increases in both the upper mid and high frequencies. It does not sound bad per se and to someone who didn't know better, it would seem to have more dynamic range. That being said, given the evidence, I can't help but think that the CD version was somehow "enhanced" to create the illusion of increased dynamic range prevalent in most "modern" recordings. I'd love to know what others think of the MoFi version, so please don't hesitate to post your opinions and comparisons.
