The thickness is 3mm for the Mat 1 and 5mm for the Mat 2. The diameter, hold and label recess are identical with both, but the Mat 2 has a rounded top edge. The Mat 1 is 12 oz (340g) and the Mat 2 is 1 pound 4.8 ounces (540g).

I was using the none felt with speed mat and thought that was amazing. I decided to try this mat after reading reviews on it. I wasn't expecting a lot of difference but WOW! Backgrounds were blacker, details I hadn't heard before on albums I listened to for years and any tick or pop that did happen to be there were so much more less noticeable. I highly recommend this product. It is worth the money.

I purchased Mat 1 for my Rega P7 w Lyra transducer. At first the music sounded strange - almost no depth. Then I realized that I mistook the 'noise' for presence. My LPs sound incredibly clear, and the audio spectrum sounds uniform. Small 'clicks & pops' no longer cause the reverberant noise in the LP, so they are significantly smaller in size.

I realize that this mat will not be ideal for all turntables.

I highly recommend this mat. Please give it a try.

I tried this mat on both of my turntables, the Garrard 401 and Technics SP10mkII and found that its diameter was a bit large to fit as the original mats were designed on both of these tables; it does not clear the edge of the platter and thus is not in full contact with the platter. Perhaps as a result of that, the sound became dead and lost air significantly. I can perfectly see how this mat can be of great benefit but you need to make sure the fit is correct. The quality of mechanical engineering is outstanding.

I have tried just about every mat out there... even one costing 2X as much as this one... and the Mat 1 still comes out on top. Enjoy The Music did a great comparison a while back with the Extreme Phono and the Mat 1 cleaned its clock. It also won their Best of 2005 award.

This is the only real carbon graphite mat out there for under $1,000. The Extreme Phono speed mat says it's made of carbon graphite - that is totally wrong - it's made of carbon fiber, a totally different material.

I bought this mat last year out of curiosity thinking I would probably send it back. A year later, it's still here and I'm very happy with it. You get what you pay for.

It's better than most.

It is the best mat available today that is purchased as an add on but I consider the Music Mat made in Canada several years back a better product especially with a clamp or weight, or the SOTA table w. vacuum.
