Two complete Living Stereo LPs on a single disc!
Using the recently rediscovered three-track original master tape for the "Organ" Symphony, this program by Munch and his 'French' American orchestra is more than ever the sonic blockbuster par excellence!
Cut directly from the 3 track master tape this recording reveals all of the glory of the recording and the precision and passion of Munch and the BSO in Boston's Symphony Hall. It doesn't get any better than this.
When remastering the original recordings, John Newton and his engineering team used only three of the available six channels on this SACD disc because that was the vision of the original producers.

| I am not a professional musician, but love good classical orchestral music. Saint-Saens "Organ" Symphony ranks with the best of Beethoven, Brahams, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky etc., and the final of the Organ Symphony is second to none. I have 5 different version,--BPO/Levine, Chicago/Barenboim, Martinon/French Radio, Boston/Munch, and now the newest Philadelphia/Eesinbach. The Boston is 3channel SACD and the Philadelphia in 5.0 Surround. The new Philadelphia organ sounds good in places and the overall sonics may be better, but you can't beat the Aeolian-Skinner organ used in the Boston. It has a better bass and the subwoofers make the whole room shake. Further, the Philadelphia seems more controversial than the others in their timings. The best of both worlds would be the Boston rendition recorded on the newest 5.1 surround equipment. I actually give this a 4.5 rating and would give a 5 except the strings are a tad thin in a few place. But what more could you want in a 50 year old recording?
